A Mandatory Plus

by Paige on January 27, 2012

Hello from the gym!

I’m actually watching the gym for the owner this afternoon while he’s out, so I’ve been hanging here, lifting a little, blogging a little, and reading a little. Not a bad job.

I also ate a little:

The pumpkin cottage cheese combo’s back, baby!

I also had some chicken and wild rice for lunch earlier. Random, but it’s what I pulled out of the fridge while I was leaving. I hate being stuck somewhere without enough food when the munchies hit, ya know?

Workout

Back to the little lifting that I did. It was more like a lotta lifting. Enough to fill 45 minutes! The gym’s a little dead today…

Anyway, this is the workout I completed – circuit style, 3 times through at the reps and weights noted below. I’m digging the circuits lately Smileimage

A Mandatory Plus

Did you all hear the official Google news? That new Google account users will be forced to join Google+?

It’s true. Any users who want to sign up for a new Google email/accounts/docs/reader etc account will also have to join the Google+ world.

image

While I do think this is very unlike Google, and it surprises me a bit, I think it’s a smart move to package its amenities like this if it wants Google+ to take off.

I have to admit, I signed up for the social media platform months ago, but very rarely log on to Google+. I kinda hope it takes off though. However, I don’t think I’d be able to juggle both Facebook and Google+, so I think I’d have to choose – or at least limit my use of one or the other to only groups/boards that are important.

Gotta go…only a couple more hours of the (office) work week left! Happy Friday Smile

What do you think of Google making Google+ mandatory?

Friday Link Love + My Audition

by Paige on January 27, 2012

Hi guys! Happy Friday Open-mouthed smile

My schedule today allows me to get my workout in a little later in the morning today, so I welcomed the day with a light breakfast:

TJ’s regular plain (full fat) Greek yogurt, 2 chopped dates, pecans, cinnamon –

alongside a grapefruit – since I have a case of them.

No, really, I have a case of grapefruit. It’s kind of the most awesome thing ever.

So last Friday I had so much fun going through and linking to some of my favorite posts of the week, that I thought I’d play along again this week.

I have to say, there were some fabulous blog posts out there this week. It was so hard to choose because I starred so many! Thus, this list is obviously not all inclusive Winking smile

But here are some goodies from the week:

Recipes I Want to Try

Erika’s Coconutty Fudge. Last night I had a mad craving for chocolate and I almost made these. But then I went and made a chocolate version of my primal pumpkin protein bars. Let’s just say I’m not going to be sharing that version’s recipes with ya’ll Winking smile But I do wan to try this fudge!

Megan’s Spicy Asian Slaw. Simple, yet delicious. I could get on board with this slaw. Where were you when I had a head of cabbage that I had no clue what to do with earlier this week, Megan?!

Claire’s Crustless Quiche. I love anything with eggs and veggies. Make it into muffins and individual servings? I love it even more!

Brandi’s Vanilla Bean Coffee Creamer. I need this in my life. End of story.

A Congratulations is in Order Post…

Julie! For getting a brand-spankin’-new jay oh bee.

Sarena – for passing her fitness nutrition certification. Girl studied her booty off and it paid off Smile

Lee also started day numero uno in her new job this week. Way to go, Lee Open-mouthed smile

People Need To Hear This Post:

Sable’s post on soreness not being required for muscle growth. Can I get an amen?

I Cannot Relate but Appreciate Post:

Katie’s post on working out in the evening. I’m a crack of dawn exerciser, but it was really interesting to hear her perspective on her PM workouts.

Posts I Starred a Long Time Ago and then Forgot About:

I “starred” Jess’s 5-Ingredient Granola Bars last January but never ended up making them. This needs to change.

Aaand lastly…My Audition

As you know, I’m an ambassador for Fitfluential. We recently received the opportunity to potentially write for a variety of online magazines.

So, here’s the Youtube video that I filmed  as part of the assignment to show that I am the gal for you! I’ll leave that “you” as universal and up to interpretation Winking smile

OK I lied, that wasn’t last.

Last lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to my friends and fellow ambassadors who posted their auditions this week too:

Lindsay posted hers on Magazine Writing

Alyssa showcased herself in a video montage for the opportunity

Jess talks about where her passion stems from

Kristin debuted her audition video as a fit mom

Theodora writes about her story as a writer

Lori and Michelle professed their love for fitness

Kelly explains the method behind her blogging madness

Am I missing anyone?

***

Now I’m going to go attempt the only thing on my to-do list before heading to work today: clean this house! Aaaaaannnd GO!

Have a great Friday Open-mouthed smile

Do you have any posts to add to the list?

Did you read any of the posts above this week?

Getting Ma’amed

by Paige on January 26, 2012

An extra coffee definitely happened this morning. Even better, it happened in bright pink!

IMG_2381
Does this cup look familiar?

IMG_2383

I actually bought a couple lids for my Tervis tumblers this past weekend – one for hot drinks and one for cold. It makes it very handy to grab and go. I was sipping some coffee this morning, then I just stuck a lid on it, and voila! Travel-friendly.

It’s the little things, I tell ya.

Lunch

Coffee held me over for a while, but soon after my tummy started grumbling for some lunch!

Another day, another salad.

Same as yesterday, but with some pecans thrown in there for fun.

Getting Maam’ed

Last night before we were seated for dinner at Biaggi’s, we were sitting at the bar waiting for our table. When the bartender got to me, he said, “and what can I get you ma’am?”

I told him water, thanks, and then looked at my mom and said, “I just got ma’amed!!”

Now this is just my opinion, but if you call me ma’am, I automatically don’t like you. Ok maybe that’s a little harsh, but I still don’t like it! I’ve got the rest of my life to be a ma’am, and it makes me feel old. For now, let’s just go with Miss, OK? Smile with tongue out

I do suppose it’s better than being called “sir.” I’ll never forget one time when I was watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Merideth Viera said she was called “sir” that weekend. Repeatedly. Apparently she was in a ball cap and in a hardware store, but the store owner repeatedly asked her if she “needed any help, sir?” I do love that she also laughed it off and made fun of herself on national television about it Open-mouthed smile

Same goes for getting carded for buying alcohol. To think I used to get excited when I didn’t get carded, and now I love getting carded, and hate when I actually do get carded.

Back to work for a few more hours…have a good one, friends!

How do you feel about getting ma’am’ed? Do you call other women “ma’am?”

Worth the Splurge

January 26, 2012

Pin itLast night we had my parents over and all went to dinner at Biaggi’s, my favorite restaurant here in town. (not a great picture of either of us, but oh well) For some reason I’ve been craving their crusty bread dipped in herbed olive oil, and nearly attacked it as soon as the waiter [...]

Salmonella on a Board

January 25, 2012

Pin itLet’s play a game, shall we? I show you a picture of my cutting boards, and you tell me how many bacteria I’m subjecting myself to: One thing that’s been on my to-do list since January of 1996 (kidding) has been to replace my old cutting boards. I’ve been using the worn out, knife-beaten [...]

On My Presets

January 24, 2012

Pin itWhenever I make dinner in the crockpot, it seems like we have leftovers for daaaays. Thus, another lunch, another meal of slow cooker leftovers: Chicken and wild rice for the third day in a row! This time I added salsa, cheese, and avocado and the flavors were like whoa! Did you know that wild [...]

The Big D

January 24, 2012

Pin itAnd I don’t mean Dallas… Morning! Steady state cardio on the workout agenda today. You know what that means… Cardio and Kindle Instead of running, I did some incline walking for about 25 minutes before switching over to the elliptical for another 20. I made some good progress in my book, too, but found [...]
