Ahhh. Today has been my kind of Sunday. When I went to the gym with my friend, Heidi, I had planned on doing an easy 3 mile run. However, that quickly turned into a hill/interval workout. Let’s just say I need to get some new sports bras. I actually have four that I really love for running, however, they were all dirty (is this TMI?)Consequently, I’ll bet you can guess what I spent the majority of my Sunday doing.
Yep, after going to Tar-jay with Heidi (and only spending 6 dollars!!!) and then taking the Nikster for a walk, I watched football

and DID LAUNDRY.
Ugh. I know I always say laundry does NOT deserve it’s own day, but unfortunately with Clarabelle’s current litter box situation, we had to rearrange the laundry room and laundry routine. So for now, a “laundry day” (ew) exists in our household. I’d rather do a load or two everyday, but whatever!
I also finished watching the online epi of Glee I had left to watch, and I’ll be watching the newest one I DVR’d tonight.
Product Review: Kitchen Tools Eat Smart Food Scale
![]()
Bill, from Health Tools contacted me to write a review of Health Tool’s Eat Smart Kitchen Scale. The first thing I thought of was that I don’t count calories, thus don’t need to weigh my food, but then I thought: Wait a second, I’m always complaining about how recipe’s use measurements in ounces, grams, etc – this would be a wonderful solution for that! Plus, kitchen scales are great for ensuring portion control. Needless to say, I wrote Bill back saying I’d be happy to review the product!

I was very pleased with the aesthetics of the scale. Shane and I don’t like to have too much stuff on our counters, but I thought the scale looked very sharp next to Alton Brown, the stand up mixer (what? I’m not obsessed or anything

The scale also has the feature where it can zero out the weight of something already on it. For example, if you want to weigh something, you can put a bowl on the scale, zero it out, then put what you want to weigh in the bowl to find out the true weight.
In fact, I had a little experiment with one of my football-watching snacks.
This is typically what a “tablespoon” of peanut butter is for me.

I don’t measure, I just dip. I decided to find out how much my serving size was compared with the official serving size on the jar.

(mmm pears and peanut butter) After zero-ing out the plate with the just the pears on it, I then dolloped the peanut butter on. It ended up being 22 grams worth, while a serving size of 2 tablespoons according to the jar is 33 grams. So my spoonful is definitely bigger than one tablespoon. Good to know!
Next, I decided to put it to use while baking! Hey, I’ll take any excuse to bake something when it’s cool outside:) The subject: carrot cake.
The ingredient to be weighed: carrots

I wanted about 4 ounces of shredded carrots, and the food scale was great at letting me know when I had enough. I couldn’t believe how if I added the tiniest amount to the bowl, it registered.
This was my first time using a food scale, and I have to say, it’s really pretty handy!
Not to mention, the carrot cake came out fabulously! I’ve been working on a healthy (ish) carrot cake recipe for a while now, and I think I nailed it!

Mmm. I definitely cut this before even making the frosting though. I forgot!

Woops!!

Much better
Don’t worry, I will post the recipe when I get up and running at WordPress. I plan on having a “recipes” tab over there

Yummy food, hope your having a great Sunday.
Mmmm carrot cake is one of my favorite kinds of cake!!
My idea of a perfect Sunday is a relaxing one with a baseball game and time spent with The Boy..
mm, your carrot cake looks delish! food scales are pretty handy, I have to use one for the kid I babysit – he has diabetes and often needs precise measurement.
I know what you mean about not having a laundry day…it's not cool enough to merit a day! lol.
I am asking for a food scale for Christmas. Thanks for the product review. I'll put this one on the list.
Sounds like a great Sunday!
I love our food scale! We don't always use it, but it is amazing to see exactly what the measurements are – and things that I always over indulge on.
I got the banana keeper! I think it either came Friday or yesterday. I can't wait to use it
Yea!
I really want a food scale! Thanks for the review! I'll have to check this one out!
That carrot cake looks amazing! I love my food scale, although I have been using it ALOT less since stopping counting calories. Yesterday I made apple crisp though and I needed 2.5 lbs of apples so it came in handy
