So I’m coming up on 3 months of blogging (and going strong) and I’m so proud of how much my little blog baby has evolved! In this short amount of time, I have created and maintained an evolving blog, met some other super cool bloggers, and have been able to get my voice heard on healthy living.
The blog is also becoming more public! I’ve said in previous posts, that I don’t go around pushing all my friends to read my blog, but if it comes up in conversation, that’s fine by me. I don’t hide it, because I’m truly myself on the blog, and if people don’t like it, then that’s fine! However, whenever a friend tells me they’re going to go read my blog, I have to admit, I do get a little nervous. Will they like it? Will they get it? It’s not like I go around in real life showing all my friends pictures of my meals, or preaching about living a healthy life style, or bringing up hot topics related to fitness and health all day long, but they obviously know it’s a passion of mine.
I do, however, talk blogs moreso with my girlfriend, Kim, because she decided to start one herself!!
Whenever word does get out that I’m blogging, I can always expect a list of the same questions.
The first question friends always ask is, “what kind of blog is it?!” to which I usually reply, a healthy living blog. It’s not really a food blog, because I don’t post every single day’s meals and everything I eat. And I also make posts on fitness, health in general, and fitness and health in the news. It’s really kind of hard to classify a blog like that, but I think “Healthy Living Blog” sums it up pretty well.
The next question they ask is, “how do you have time to blog so much?” I typically try to post two posts a day (as you’ve probably noticed) and it really does take up a couple hours if you consider commenting, visiting other blogs, writing and reading emails, and posting in itself. However, I love it. It’s my hobby, and I’m passionate about it. And with all passions, they take time and hard work. Seriously, what’s a passion if you don’t sacrifice something for it? I’ve been a busy bee most of my life, with work, school, and sports, and I tend to like to fill up my time (with some room for trash TV of course.)
Then, some of those who don’t “get it” ask “why do you do that?” or they mock it. It’s all in good fun, of course (unless it’s happening behind my back, thus I wouldn’t know about that) but some of my friends/family don’t really understand why. It’s all about hobbies and passions, people! For instance, my brother, who is a fabulous brother, but who is also huge into cars (and foods that are convenient –which is fine for him! To each their own), told me the other day after reading a race re-cap post:
“I read your blog a lot! In fact, I got to thinking I should start one. But mine would go like this: For breakfast, I had a coke (insert picture of coke can,) and then, I did a MARATHON! with my car. And I didn’t even get out of breath or break a sweat! After the marathon I had *gasp* another coke!”
Hardy, har, har Mike
Seriously, though – he understands that I blog about the topics I do because I enjoy them, and I know he appreciates it (I mean, he said he reads the blog a lot!)
I guess I’m just saying, for me, writing on my blog is just putting myself out there, but not broadcasting it. Whoever will read it, will, and if they enjoy it great, and if they learn something from it, wonderful, and if they don’t like it, that’s fine. In fact, one thing Running Around Normal has helped me realize is that if people don’t like me or agree with my habbits or lifestyle, THAT’S FINE
How do people in your life perceive your blog?
How would you “classify” your blog?
If you don’t have a blog, what do people in your life think about your reading health or food blogs?
Stay tuned to tomorrow morning’s blog to find out who’s the winner of the Banana Keeper and Lara Bar Giveaway!!

My blog is more for me than anything/anyone else. I use it sort of as a journal, if you can call it that. But I do have some friends I don't see very often and they read it daily to catch up with me if we can't fit in a phone call. In either case, I love you writing, I love your pictures, and I love your blog!
Girl I love your blog
I am the same way…I don't publically talk about about it- but if it comes up I will give people the info. I say my blog is mostly a healthy eating blog with a touch of exercise focus and a hint of info on my life
So far, I haven't had any negative words towards it. People are so surprised that I have one, and didn't mention it to them before. More understand and I do like to share it with people. I like to say ''Healthy Living Blog'' too!
Only my Husband and mom know about the blog. I like it being my secret for right now. Eventually I will tell friends and other family about it but not now.
I love your blog! I think you are fabulous!
I haven't really shared my blog with too many of my family and friends. I'm kind of like you, if it comes up in conversation it's cool but I don't push the topic.
I'm not sure how to classify my blog. It's of course about food and my journey to becoming healthier but I also talk about my life. I like to think it's just a good combination of all of the things that I love!
I'm not really straight forward about my blog…I can only think of 4 people in real life that I know that I've told! If it came up I wouldn't hide it though.
I think part of my problem is that I really don't have a focus with my blog…it's healthy living but a general newlywed lifestyle blog too! I blog for me though so I'm not too worried about it.
Awesome post, Paige! Initially I felt totally awkward about my blog, and still sometimes take a while to tell people the web address…but as time goes by, I feel more and more comfortable. Especially since most people I tell give me positive reactions!
Although I still haven't told my sisters…one step at a time!
i find it's a great conversation starter, especially when i'm taking pix.
A lot of my friends still don't know about my blog and I like it that way. It's my thing. Sometimes it come up in conversation. But I agree with you, it's a hobby that you have to commit to and I love doing it!
I like how you classified your blog. Healthy living sounds just about right!
I think most of my family doesn't really understand what blogging is. All they know is I like to take pictures of my food.
I've told my friends about it but they've never asked for the website. I think I'd feel subconscious if I knew they were reading!
Great post! I guess my blog would be classified as healthy living/collection of my sarcastic and cynical thoughts. A lot of my friends do know about it, and one has actually started her own blog too. No one I know seems to think it's too weird (I was really worried about what my parents would think about it and they were actually totally cool. If I'm at home and we're with other people and I don't want to take a picture my mom's like "no, take it, you should be proud of that, it's something unique that you do"). I'm so glad I started blogging though because I've "met" so many amazing people (you included!)!
Great post!! I don't really talk about my blog as much as I should in my personal life. My friends just don't get it. But I feel the same way about putting the time in and how much it gives back. Blogging is my passion and I love it!
I love reading yours too
Great post Paige! I'm also hitting 3 months
. Some people know about my blog some don't. If it comes up it comes up and I'm happy to talk about it. I don't really care what people think about it too much. I think some people think it's a bit weird but I don't let it phase me. I have got a lot of positive feedback though and LOVE writing and blogging so that keeps me going! Love your blog too
you are very real.
oh my gosh i was nodding along to the whole post! i am just like you with my friends. but the ones who do read it have liked it!
I was also nodding along! I was a little nervous at first to share with friends and family for hte resons you mentioned, and like you not because I am not myself, its just that I don't go around talking about food and fitness with everyone. I have gotten good feedback so far though form the people that matter most to me. One friend said she loves reading it because its a different side of me she normally doesn't see.
It's so funny that you posted this because my friend Kristin (who I work with)posted links to my blog and another co-worker on facebook and several of our co-workers read them! At first I was a little nervous too, but at the same time I was flattered that they took the time to read it! Like you, I also am myself on my blog so if they don't like it "oh well", but it was still a little weird to have them comment of the food that I ate for lunch the other day (the turkey wrapped asparagus that you posted about!).
I consider my blog one that's about running and evolved into a foodie one…however since I don't always do such a great job posting all the time I think maybe it's better as a "healthy living blog" too
